It’s the question we hear most: “Should I build post-frame or steel?” Both are excellent, proven construction methods — and the honest answer is that the right choice depends on what the building has to do, where it sits, and how you want it to feel.
Where post-frame (pole barn) wins
Post-frame construction gives you the most finished building per dollar in the small-to-mid size range. It’s faster to enclose, easier to insulate economically, and friendlier to wood-framed interiors — which is why most shops, garages, ag buildings, and barndominiums in our area are post-frame.
Pole barns also handle sloped or rural sites gracefully: fewer concrete requirements up front and flexible foundation options keep dirt-work costs in check.
Where steel wins
Engineered rigid-frame steel is the answer when you need serious clear spans — think 60 feet and beyond — high eaves, or a building sized for commercial and industrial work. Steel doesn’t rot, doesn’t feed termites, and shrugs off decades of weather with almost no maintenance.
The honest way to decide
Start with the job, not the material: what has to fit inside, how will it be used in ten years, and what does the site allow? Bring us those answers — or just the dream — and we’ll walk you through real numbers for both options. That conversation is free, and it usually settles the question in under an hour.
